Although all shared hosting plan look the same, but not all hosting company offering it in best quality. I had personally came to hosting services that require custom ftp setting in order to upload files to server. And also faced ftp server that will terminate your ftp connection when you had been inactive for short time frame, or limit your maximum number of ftp connection that you can do at the same time.

As a test and review standard, i would usually use filezilla to test out the ftp service. From my test result with inmotion hosting ftp services. Appear to be they allow 4 ftp connections without problem, and their ftp server maintain the connection for reasonable time. FTP uploading and ftp download are decently fast as well.

Note that inmotion hosting plan come with 1000 FTP account, this mean you can create up to 1000 unique ftp login account, and each with login name and password, and own ftp root access directory. Use the inmotion hosting cpanel to create/add/remove ftp user account.
